Road Trip!! It was a SCREAM! =)

Well, I decided to venture off on my first road trip alone with the girls last week.  We went down to Georgia to visit my grandparents, whom I haven't seen in over seven years.

The road trip part of it didn't go so well. LOL.  What should be a seven hour drive took eleven hours.  Kiley did great, but Rowen, well lets just say that next time, I need to invest in some earplugs. LOL.  She only slept an hour and a half of the trip on the way there and two hours on the way back (and mind you that wasn't consecutive).  The rest of the drive she screamed and screamed and screamed some more.  After I realized how long it was taking with stopping so frequently I realized she was just going to have to cry it out otherwise I would be stopping every ten minutes.  I thought she would cry herself to sleep but that was just wishful thinking.  She would literally cry four an hour and a half, then we'd pull over nurse, change a diaper, play for a minute and start it all over again.  Poor thing, she was all red eyed and puffy and her face was soaked with tears, but I didn't know what else to do.  I just knew the sooner we got there the better.

I think 3+ is the best age for road trips. =)  We left at 8am and got there at 7pm and then when we came home I thought I would try leaving at a different time to see if that helped Rowen.  We left at 3:30pm and got home at 2am.  Yeah, didn't seem to make a difference except that I was even more tired and Kiley had an accident in the car on the way home.  Fun, Fun!  So, it was a rough drive to say the least, but once we got there we had so much fun.

Kiley has never met her great grandparents, so I didn't know how she would react but she gave Grandma TuTu a big hug as soon as she got out of the car.  She loved playing blocks with Grandpa Frank, reading books with Grandma TuTu, picking flowers and finding all of the stuffed animal puppies around the house and then piling them in her bed every night to sleep with.

When I asked her what her favorite part of the trip was she said,  "playing with the puppies and Colton,"(Colton is my 11yr old cousin that lives next door to my grandparents).  My aunt and uncle and their two kids live right next door (which is a little ways away since they own acres out there).  There were horses, puppies, chickens and Kiley even got to go out on the paddle boat on the lake.  She had so much fun and cried when we had to say goodbye to Nikayla and Colton.

I enjoyed catching up with Grandma and Grandpa and introducing them to my girls for the first time.  Rowen did great once we got there and actually slept through the night every night but one. If only she could have slept in the car.   Poor thing.  Our visit there was great and it was a lot of fun.  I only wish the drive was shorter so we could visit more often.

Now that we are home Kiley keeps asking me if we can go back to TuTu's house.  I guess she still doesn't realize that it took a whole day of driving to get there. LOL.  Enjoy the pics.  I should have taken more.

Grandma and Grandpa took me out for Mexican food, my favorite.  We don't have any places in Ohio.  This was so good.  It made me miss California.  More Please!!
